Two paintings by renowned Bangladeshi artist Zainul Abedin achieved record-breaking prices at a recent Sotheby’s auction titled “Modern and Contemporary South Asian Art” held in New York.

The star of the auction was “Santal Couples,” a 1963 oil painting depicting a rural couple in traditional attire, which sold for USD 381,000. This masterpiece, previously owned by the Marker family, close friends of Abedin, carries profound symbolic depth
