Qatar’s Emir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, has strongly condemned the international community for forsaking ” purposeful killing of innocent civilians” in Gaza. On Tuesday, he urged for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, at the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) summit in Doha. His comments became a part of the broader discussion at the summit.

Accusing Israel of committing “genocide”, the Emir boldly questioned the absence of the international community in the protection of the innocents of Gaza. Although there have been negotiations between Israel and Hamas to exchange prisoners between the two countries without conditions; Sheikh Tamim has dismissed this as any kind of substitution for a “permanent ceasefire.”

The Emir’s condemnation underscores Qatar’s commitment to promoting peace and stability in the Middle East. He referred to the ongoing conflict as a “national struggle” and called for the United Nations Security Council to put an end to the atrocities and bring Israel to negotiation. The Emir’s call for a ceasefire aligns with broader international efforts to address the crisis and emphasises the importance of regional collaboration in resolving conflicts and promoting peace in the Middle East.

To be noted, the summit was also joined by the Leaders of six Gulf countries – Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Saudi Arabia, Oman, Kuwait, and Turkey.
