The United Nations Security Council is due to vote on a resolution demanding ceasefire in the Israel-Palestinian conflict on Thursday. The UNSC vote was initially postponed from Monday and then pushed back to Tuesday and then Wednesday. The new resolution would also allow the U.N. to oversee and facilitate the delivery and distribution of humanitarian aid to the Gaza strip.

As international diplomats settled on a date for UN resolution, the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UN OCHA) said the Israeli military ordered the immediate evacuation of an area covering approximately 20 percent of central and southern Khan Younis city on Wednesday. The area currently includes 32 shelters that accommodate more than 141,000 people displaced from northern Gaza.

The leader of Yemen’s Houthis warned on Wednesday they would attack U.S. warships if the rebels are attacked by the U.S. led multinational maritime force, which was set up this week to counter Houthi attacks on commercial vessels in the Red Sea.

The Houthi leader also warned the U.S. to not send soldiers to Yemen, saying they would “face something harsher than what they faced in Afghanistan and what they suffered in Vietnam.”

The U.S. along with 10 other nations will conduct joint patrols in the southern Red Sea and Gulf of Aden. The security initiative has officially been titled “Operation Prosperity Guardian”.

According to Gaza’s Government Media Office, at least 20,000 Palestinians have been killed since October 7th. According to the Committee to Protect Journalists, 64 journalists and media workers have been killed in Gaza since October 7th. The death toll in Israel stands at nearly 1,140.
