Israeli Defence Minister Yoav Gallant has outlined Israel’s plans for the next phase of its assault on the Gaza Strip and for the day after the war ends.

He stated that they would initiate tunnel demolition and air raids in the north of Gaza while continuing hostage rescue and eliminating Hamas leaders in southern Gaza. After the war ends, Israel plans to hand the civil affairs of Gaza to local Palestinian leaders but would still retain control over the besieged enclave.

The number of dead and wounded continues to rise in Gaza. Doctors without Borders reported on Thursday that Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital received 155 dead and 357 wounded following Israeli air strikes on two refugee camps in December. Al Jazeera Arabic reported that six people were killed in their home in Rafah, an area which was previously declared a safe zone in Gaza.

In Hebron, the occupied West Bank, Israeli armed forces raided a commemoration ceremony for senior Hamas official Saleh al-Arouri. The gathering was dispersed with live gun fire and tear gas canisters on Thursday.
