The chief of Hamas told Reuters on Tuesday that they are “close to reaching a truce agreement” with Israel.

No details were given about the truce but a Hamas official told Al Jazeera that the negotiation would centre on how long the truce would last, the delivery of aid into the Gaza strip and the exchange of hostages from both sides. He also said that both sides would free women and children and further details would be announced by Qatar, the mediator in this negotiation.

Israel has not yet given an official statement on the Qatar-led negotiation but an unnamed senior government official was quoted on Israeli television saying “they are close” but gave no further detail.
