Labour Court’s Case Rushing Towards Hearing

Barrister Abdullah Al-Mamun will be defending the case filed against the Nobel Prize laureate, economist Dr Muhammad Yunus, which is following a “verdict” with an impeccable speed. Despite his attendance being dismissed, the barrister has been voluntarily present in the court.

Earlier on November 16, the first day concluded with the plaintiff’s arguments against 4 of the accused, including Dr Yunus. Meanwhile, there were further debates on behalf of the Labour and Factory Directorate. Yesterday, Barrister Abdullah Al-Mamun defended the accused on the first day. The case has been adjourned until next Sunday.

Barrister Abdullah Al-Mamun stated, “As I’ve already said, The case is going ten times faster than the metro rail, even a boeing. The court has given 6 dates within a month. Where they have 5-10 years old cases pending with no witness or justice.”

While presenting, Dr Yunus’s counsel stated the irrelevance of Dr Yunus to the case and mentioned the questions regarding the purpose of the accusations. He strongly stated, “If the law is abided, there is no power to hold back the judgement and pardon the accused.”

To be noted, on September 9, 2021, the plaintiff, Inspector Arifuzzaman of the Department of Inspection for Factories and Establishments(DIFE), filed the case against 4, including Dr Muhammad Yunus, at Dhaka Third Labour Court, mentioning violations of labour law, including skipping the submission of profits to the labour welfare fund. Clauses 7,8,117, and 234 from the Labour Law were applied. Along with Dr Yunus, the managing director of Grameen Telecom Ashraful Hasan, and directors Noor Jahan Begum, and Md. Shahjahan were also accused.
