Australia have won the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup for the sixth time, breaking their own record and ending India’s undefeated run in its home tournament. The final match began with Australia winning the toss and choosing to field first. India posted a surprisingly low score of 240 all out, which Australia chased down with a 192 run partnership from Travis Head and Marnus Labuschagne. The massive Indian audience present at Narendra Modi Stadium fell silent as the Australian team won the match by six wickets and with seven overs to spare.

Australia began this tournament with back to back losses to India and South Africa before going on a run of nine straight wins. They entered the final match as the underdogs against the home team that had not lost a single match in the tournament. But against all odds, Australia put up a remarkable performance and defeated the dominant Indian team.
